merry christmas and a BIG thank-you

(christmas cheer courtesy of awesome friend + photographer Blair)

Merry Christmas! And a very sincere and resounding THANK-YOU! to all my faithful blog readers and photography clients.

This has been a spectacular year for me and wonkyeye photography. When I think of all my blessings and everything for which I'm grateful, it's almost overwhelming. I can't believe that in just shy of two years I've gone from someone who likes to take pictures to a full-on photographer. I still can't believe it that when people ask me what I do for a living I'm lucky enough to answer, "I take pictures." Sometimes I even say, "I'm a professional photographer" and my stomach flips with excitement and to a smaller degree, disbelief. It's all happening - for real! :) :) :)

Over the next few months wonkyeye is going to be undergoing some major upgrading. In anticipation of the new changes, I've been holding back on posting my latest sessions. So if you've been wondering why you and yours haven't been featured on the blog yet, it's because I have a newer and better blog waiting in the wings and I want lots of new material for it's official debut this coming winter.

I'm still actively accepting photo shoots so don't be shy to get in touch. Although wonkyeye-the-blog will be abnormally quiet, I'll be busy behind the scenes, shooting away and working on a shinier version of wonkyeye, version 2.0 if you will.

A big, big, BIG thank-you and lots of love to everyone who's supported me, believed in me, and encouraged me this past year. Taking pictures is my absolute favourite thing to do and it's an honour and privilege that you invite me into your lives to capture your most special moments.

Happy Holidays! Wishing you lots of cheer, love, laughter, peace and happiness.

nicole + vickas (say i do part two}

And here it is, the grand conclusion to Nicole and Vickas' wedding celebrations - the traditional Indian ceremony.

How am I supposed to choose 30 or less images from the 800+ of the day? It's practically impossible to whittle it down so in the end, I've decided not to. Today I will post the pre-ceremony, ceremony and portrait photos and I will post the dinner and dance photos later... when I get back from NEW YORK!

Yep, that's right folks, I'm off to NYC to celebrate my birthday and spend some time with my best friend and boyfriend (same person, in case you didn't catch that!). So, these beautiful images will have to keep you going until Monday!

It's a long ceremony for little ones!

Nicole and Vickas had something special on their wedding day that not too many people can claim - a hurricane! But hey, even though Earl wasn't invited, he didn't stay long and he most certainly didn't put a damper on the day.

You know I love taking pictures of the bride and groom's feet. I think it tells such a great story.

Here we're pretending that Hurricane Earl is blowing them away - isn't it great?!

These two were so much fun. When I said, "just be yourselves and let me take pictures" they knew exactly what to do! :)

nicole + vickas {sangeet}

When Vickas and Nicole asked me to shoot their Sangeet, I said, "absolutely!" and then went directly to wikipedia to see what a Sangeet is. The proper definition is a ceremony/event prior to the wedding where people sing traditional Indian songs and the wedding guests have the opportunity to get acquainted with each other. The Sangeet is a joyous occasion where the family and friends of the couple perform dances to celebrate the upcoming wedding.

This is what I know... a Sangeet is an awesome party with lots of delicious food, lots of performances, lots of dancing and lots of fun! I hope you enjoy my take on this amazing gathering of family and friends.

Nicole showing her Henna and explaining what it's all about. It was so neat to see the mixing and sharing of traditions.

As a photographer it's fun to capture a wide spectrum of emotions... laughter and joy and sometimes, tears and despair. Don't worry, all tears were dried within minutes.

The performances were really beautiful... the dancing was amazing. I love this one of Mom sitting on the sidelines prompting her little girl's next move. So sweet.

Vickas and Nicole share a private moment while watching the performances. These two were so tight and so in love and managed to maintain this unshakable calm despite the chaos of the three-day celebrations. Must be love. :)

All people of all ages danced! It was awesome to see such a bumpin' dance floor. So fun! I wanted to throw down my camera and join the party! :)
