ben + maria {in love}

Hi! I'm home! Cuba was absolutely amazing and I can't wait to go through all our photos and share what we saw. New posts will be appearing soon. :)

Although traveling is an incredible opportunity to learn about the world (and yourself!) I'm really excited to be home and am looking forward to a fun spring of shooting. I'm working on launching my website and have all kinds of awesome things planned, so stay tuned!

The week before we left, I had the opportunity to do an engagement session with Ben + Maria. Two awesome (very photogenic!) people that were a lot of fun to work with. And troopers too! It was windy and cooooold on the waterfront but you wouldn't know it from their photos. My three favourite images are the close-up of Maria's eyelashes (so intimate and romantic!), the one of them kissing with the light shining through, and the one of Ben giving her a piggy back and her hair is blowing wildly in the wind - awesome! I love unruly hair!

sarah & joel {in love}

After months and months of talking about it, Sarah, Joel and I got together for their engagement shoot in January. Sarah wanted to do it outside on the beach because Joel proposed on a beach... God love their hardiness because it was COLD and you can barely see how freezing Sarah is in any of these images. Afterwards, I don't think I felt my fingers for 45 minutes!

But these shots were totally worth it. Sarah is stunningly beautiful and her and Joel simply glow. You can tell that these two are meant to be together and it's wonderful to see two people so in love. Hopefully their wedding down south this Spring will be a touch warmer than this day was. :)

four decades of love

Ever since I first started taking my photography seriously, I've wanted to do a shoot with Mom and Dad. But you know how it is - there's never time or it's never convenient. And one sad but true fact I've observed is that as people get older (and I'm talking sometimes 35 or 40!) they become more and more reluctant to have their portrait taken. I don't know why, as the stories on people's faces become ever-so-much-more interesting with every day that passes.

But I digress. One fine fall day this November as they were driving me back to Halifax, the sun was slanting at such an angle that I absolutely had to pull over and get some shots. My parents essentially had no choice in the matter. And just like that, their impromptu photo shoot began.

Have I mentioned before how amazing my parents are? Well, they are. And I consider myself a lucky pup to have witnessed the growth of a marriage - a delicate balance cemented by love - that I can refer to as a healthy and vibrant reference point when navigating my own life. For two people to have been in love every single day for over 40 years is nothing short of incredible. And I really do think these pictures highlight something magical. xo.

PS: This jumping shot was all Mom's idea. Seriously!! :)

megan & lg {part II}

I don't think you need me to tell you how in love these two are, the pictures tell the story loud and clear. I especially like the first one - I think it's dead sexy with a very intense energy... when I first saw it, I got goosebumps!

the parkers

It feels like ages ago since Deb and I first chatted about getting together to do some photos. Exactly one swine flu and some Christmas craziness later, we finally met on Saturday morning.

I'm always nervous before a shoot because I never know exactly what I'm walking into, and I'm always scared I'm going to let people down. It's my genuine desire to create images that people will cherish forever so I put a lot of pressure on myself to get it right. Lately, luck has been on my side as I've snapped a few awesome pictures.

Deb and Frank's little guy Joey is beyond amazing. He was so serious and curious checking me out, trying to figure out just what the heck was going on. As you can see, he wasn't necessarily the biggest fan of the Santa hat, even though he looked adorable in it. Deb and Frank: thank you for being so kind, patient, encouraging and fun. I look forward to hanging out with you all again soon!

If you know me at all, or read this blog, you don't need me to tell you how thrilled I was to be a part of Robert & Sarah's wedding. Nor do I have to tell you how much I absolutely adore Sarah. Or how I think these two are a match made in heaven. xo.

three favourite pictures

Today was a beautiful day and here are three of my favourite pictures from it.

This morning I met up with Megan and LG to snap a few shots of the newly engaged couple. These two were so laid back and game for anything. Of course, I have loads of photos of them being (very much) in love (they were so darn adorable) but this particular image made me stop. And laugh. I know it's pretty serious for an engagement photo but there's something about it that makes me go, "ooOOOooo" and then laugh out loud. Thanks for a fun morning you two, I can't wait to edit through the rest of your session!


This afternoon I went for a short "hike." That is, if you consider walking along a well-groomed, overly-signed, gravel path hiking. It was a glorious day... one of those perfect fall days where a wool scarf keeps you cozy and the sky is the most awesome azure blue. The leaves were a riot of colour but my eye couldn't help but scan the ground. And to what reward! Too lazy to switch to a different lens, I approached these mushrooms with a wide-ish angle and I have to say, I love the result. This is exactly the type of landscape my imagination painted as a little girl.


My final favourite shot of the day is, of course, a portrait of a handsome man. (And a mighty fine Boggle player, I should add). I tried to make this photo look a little rumpled and desaturated and I kinda like the effect.


My beautiful day ended with my beautiful friend Elaine arriving safe & sound from Scotland. I'm lucky to have her be all mine for the next week or so. It hasn't been just the two of us since collage! I wonder what trouble we'll get up to... >:)

I didn't realize how many pictures I took the night I was out with Lucas and his parents. Here are a few more favourites. And there are still more to come!

I love this first one, it's so typical of a toddler... "No Mom! I want don't want to go over there!!"


And this, I discovered this morning while puttering around the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil. Yes, that is a napkin twisted through a perfectly circular hole in the middle of a wine glass. Odd.
